The best argument I've heard for why they SHOULD play is that football
gives the players structure. Assume they cancel the season. The players are still in Blacksburg or Charlottesville, but now they don't have football practice, and conditioning, and monitored study halls, and games and so on. A whole lot of time where their life is structured.
What are they going to do with all that extra free time? Well, some will probably be smart and avoid college parties and bars, etc., and those players will be safer than if they played, but a whole bunch of them are going to use their now free football time to go out and socialize, exposing them to the virus probably moreso than the sport activities did/would have.
So like so many things with this virus, and where the USA has put themselves, it's a bad choice either way. [Post edited by Late 80s Hokie at 08/06/2020 11:21AM]
